Whirlpool Whispure AP51030S Air Purifier Review
The Whirlpool Whispure air purifier uses a pre-filter and HEPA air filter to remove allergens, dust and bacteria from the air. The Whispure air purifier does not have carbon so we would not recommend this air purifier for odor removal. This air purifier model replaces the AP45030S model that was rated very well in the reviews by Consumer Reports. The frame is made of plastic and the shape of the air purifier and design of the air grilles give the air purifier more of an industrial look. It was clearly designed by an engineer so it won't win any design awards but you can't argue with the performance. Features such as a filter replacement indicator and timer that are common on most other air purifiers do not find their way into the user interface of the Whirlpool Whispure air purifier.
Update (Nov 2009) - Whirlpool is no longer manufacturing air purifiers and have removed them from their website. They still supply replacement air filters at a cost of $99 each.

- Ease of Use Rating: 1.8 out of 2. The Whirlpool air purifier is very simple to set up and operate. We simply removed the air purifier from the box and plugged it in. The power controls are very intuitive and access to the filter requires removal of the cover that can be tricky to open and close but most people find this easy. The filter requires replacement every 6 months but there is no cleaning involved.
- Air Flow: 1.8 out of 2. The Whirlpool Whispure air purifier has a max air flow of 330 cfm (cubic feet per minute) in our testing on the higher fan speeds so in our opinion it can clean rooms in the 500 sq ft range( 20’ x 25’). The noise level at the highest fan speed is louder than we feel most users would want while in a room and found the Whispure AP51030S air purifier to be similar in noise level to other leading HEPA air purifiers.
- Filter Efficiency: 2.7 out of 3. The Whirlpool Whispure air purifier removed 90% of the particles that were passing through the air purifier. This places the Whirlpool air purifier in the top half of air purifier performance.
- Consumer Feedback: 2.7 out of 3. In scouring the web for customer reviews we found just over 50% of reviews gave the Whirlpool air purifier a 5 star rating and a 4.2 star rating overall. Many positive comments were given for the quality of construction and strong air flow.. Several of the reviewers were pet owners and reported very positive experiences in the Whirlpool air purifier being able to effectively remove the dust and pet dander. The key negative that was reported is the noise level that is produced on the higher fan speeds as well the air purifier being larger than expected and not fitting in as well in a bedroom.
