Ionic Pro Electronic Air Purifier Review
The Ionic Pro electronic air purifier is an electrostatic air cleaner that uses a series of electronically charged plates similar to the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze to clean the air. In fact if you took the name plate off of the air purifiers, most people would have a hard time determining which is the Ionic Pro purifier and which is the Shaper Image. The electrostatic plates are permanent type filters also known as filter-less and require cleaning with a damp cloth. The air is pulled through the Ionic Pro based on the charges on the plates however there is no fan assembly that translates into a very quiet air cleaner with little air flow.

- Ease of Use Rating: 1.5 out of 2. The Ionic Pro air purifier is very simple to set up and operate. The power controls are very intuitive and access to the filter plates is as simple as pulling on the handle at the top of the purifier. The electrostatic plates require cleaning in order for the air cleaner to operate at its peak efficiency and this can become a chore compared to a maintenance free air cleaner.
- Air Flow: 0 out of 2. The Ionic Pro purifier has virtually no air flow and was among the worst performing air purifiers with respect to room coverage size.
- Filter Efficiency: 1 out of 3. The Ionic Pro removed roughly 1/3 of the airborne particles that were passing through the purifier. The results are in-line with what we saw with the Ionic Breeze. Testing from other air cleaner review sites report results that are consistent.
- Consumer Feedback: 1.75 out of 3. Due to a strong presence in retail stores the Ionic Pro has a ton of reviews on sites such as Amazon and Epinions. The average review is a 3 out of 5 stars and that is below average for the air purifier category. Roughly 1/3 of the reviewers gave it 5 stars and were impressed with the Ionic Pro’s ability to remove dust and odors. About 1/3 reviewers gave the Ionic Pro purifier 3 stars and generally felt the air purifier worked but were disappointed with an aspect such as requiring frequent cleaning and sparking in the air filter plate chamber. Nearly 1/3 of reviewers gave the Ionic Pro purifier 1 star, the lowest rating. These customers were dissatisfied with a lack of cleaning ability, an odor that was generated that resulted in headaches, or ozone concerns.
